Weather in Sjoa Rafting camp: Sun in the face, the wind in the back – perfect conditions!
The rest of the country: Cool rain and bitter wind straight at – rigorous conditions!
Water Levels:Water levels vary considerably from year to year. And when it’s most, is hard to say much in advance. It can be anything from early May until the end of July, depending on temperature and precipitation. It is snowmelt in the mountains that puts the most momentum in the Sjoa. And generally water level is highest from late May onwards towards Midsummer. And when all this is said, we want to add; high water is not always synonymous with a good and fun trip. We generally prefer a medium-good water level. When there are opportunities for playing, surfing and fun in the river. At these levels the river offers good waves for surfing, spots to relax and play, and the risk of unforeseen or unintended maneuver is much lower.
At high water must guides choose the safe routes, and there are stretches we do not want swimmers or rafts going around (flip).
It’s extremely rare that we have to cancel trips. It may be several years between each time. It happens that we have to put on alternative tours, because of high water, but it’s not every year..
For rafting or other river activites we recommend that you have a woollen pullover or wool/thermal underwear, woollen socks and towel (this can also be rented). For accommodation in lavvu; sleeping mats and sleeping bags.
